The Benifits Of Autism Research

Autism research has taken huge leaps in the last few years in helping us understand more about this autistic disorder. However, there is much that is still unknown. However, if the disorder is found early, then the child has a better chance of increasing both their communication and relationship skills because parents are given information which can be applied to the daily routines of their child. There are many different theories as to why a child may have an autism and while all the answers are still not available, research has made it possible for the autistic child to live a better life.

Studies on autism have been done to try and prove if there is a genetic link to an autistic disorder. Within these studies, the genes that are related to speech and speech development were scrutinized to find out if the delays that autistic children exhibit could be genetic. One such study showed that rare genetic abnormalities existed with a certain chromosome and were one hundred times more prevalent in autistic people. It was therefore concluded that this itself could be one of the many causes of autism. It was also found that most people with autism did not have the mutation, meaning that other genes also must be involved in the process.

Products that contain gluten, such as barley, rye, wheat and some oat products, have been shown through autism research to have a damaging affect on children who have an autistic disorder. The gluten can actually be detrimental to the brain, the bowels and even puts extreme stress on the immune system. After this was discovered, many physicians prescribed a gluten free diet for their autistic patients, and after being on this diet for about 3 months, many parents stated that their child was better able to focus on tasks, that their skills in language improved and that the child was better able to socialize with others.

Research is gaining ground on learning more about what causes autistic disorder and what can be done to help relieve some of the symptoms and behavioral patterns. Yet there still is no cure. Understanding that even the foods that are eaten by an autistic child can affect their behavior has been a huge step in enabling parents and caregivers to better take hold of the situation and to make changes in their child's diet. As time goes on autism research will no doubt be able to give us more helpful information about what changes need to be made in an autistic child's life in order to help them grow up to be healthier and more productive.

Today's Tip On Autism

An autistic spectrum disorder can be first noticed in a child by the age of 3 and in many cases much earlier. It is normally the parent who is the first to notice the behaviors or at times, the lack of certain behaviors of their children. Children who are stricken by disorders of the autism spectrum act differently than other children and sometimes do so from birth. They are most often unresponsive to parents and other individuals and will focus on objects that are not of any relevance, for an extended period of time. The child may also show signs of changes as they develop. If a child was once able to focus and interact with parents and others by babbling and cooing and suddenly becomes resistant to socialization, then this could be a cause for concern.
